The Bride In The Heavenly Wedding Banquet

Today, let us take some time to understand the parable of the ‘Wedding Banquet’ in the Bible. Let us add realisation to our vague, pre-existing knowledge, by discovering the mystery about the Bride in this parable.

Wedding Banquet and Jesus’ First Coming

A wedding banquet is a joyful event, it is such a happy event that even the people of India celebrate it for 3-7 days. Jesus likened our receiving salvation to attending a wedding banquet.

Matthew 22:1-10 Jesus spoke to them again in parables, saying: “The kingdom of heaven is like a king who prepared a wedding banquet for his son. He sent his servants to those who had been invited to the banquet to tell them to come, but they refused to come. “Then he sent some more servants and said, ‘Tell those who have been invited that I have prepared my dinner: My oxen and fattened cattle have been butchered, and everything is ready. Come to the wedding banquet.’ “But they paid no attention and went off—one to his field, another to his business. The rest seized his servants, mistreated them and killed them. The king was enraged. He sent his army and destroyed those murderers and burned their city. “Then he said to his servants, ‘The wedding banquet is ready, but those I invited did not deserve to come. So go to the street corners and invite to the banquet anyone you find.’ So the servants went out into the streets and gathered all the people they could find, the bad as well as the good, and the wedding hall was filled with guests.

What makes up a wedding banquet? It is a bridegroom, a bride and the invited guests. However, in this parable the Bridegroom (Son of Man-Jesus) and the guests (saints who will be saved) appear but, there is no bride.  A wedding banquet can never take place in the absence of a bride. Since Jesus compared the wedding banquet to our receiving salvation, this means that salvation is incomplete until the bride who did not appear at Jesus’ first coming appears.  The bride is prophesied to appear at the end of God’s work of redemption. Let us see the last book of the Bible.

Bride Appears in the Last Days

Revelations 19:7-9 Let us rejoice and be glad and give him glory! For the wedding of the Lamb has come, and his bride has made herself ready. Fine linen, bright and clean, was given her to wear.” (Fine linen stands for the righteous acts of God’s holy people.) Then the angel said to me, “Write this: Blessed are those who are invited to the wedding supper of the Lamb!” And he added, “These are the true words of God.”

This is another parable of the wedding banquet. In the parable, all characters needed to make a wedding banquet possible appear. We can see the appearance of  the Bridegroom-Lamb appears. Is the Lamb here, the first coming Jesus or second coming Jesus? He is the second coming Christ. Who is the second coming Christ prophesied to appear with? He is to come with His Bride who has made herself ready. The Bride of the Bridegroom who did not appear at Jesus’ first coming, will finally appear in the last days. Who is the Bride?

Wife of the Lamb – Heavenly Jerusalem

Revelations 21:9-10 One of the seven angels who had the seven bowls full of the seven last plagues came and said to me, “Come I will show you the bride, the wife of the Lamb.” And he carried me away in the Spirit to a mountain great and high, and showed me the Holy City, Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God.

Through the revelation from Jesus, given to the apostle John, the angel said to him, “Come I will show you the bride, the wife of the Lamb.”  Therefore the Bride is the wife of Jesus. However, at His first coming did Jesus have a wife? No, His wife will only appear with Him at His second coming in the last days. After the angel said he would show John the wife of Jesus, who did he show in verse 10? The angel “showed me the Holy City, Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven”. This means the Heavenly Jerusalem is the wife of Jesus.  Just as the Lamb does not refer to an actual animal but, represents Jesus, the Heavenly Jerusalem (Wife of Christ) does not refer to an actual city in Heaven but, represents someone.

Heavenly Jerusalem Mother

Galations 4:26 But the Jerusalem that is above is free, and she is our mother.

Galations 4:31 Therefore, brothers and sisters, we are not children of the slave woman, but of the free woman.

Who is the Jerusalem that is above (Heavenly Jerusalem)? The Bible says she is our Mother. Heavenly Jerusalem Mother is said to be a free woman and not a city. It means She will undoubtedly come along with the second coming Christ in the last days.

The prophecy of the Heavenly Wedding banquet is being fulfilled present day. The our Father and Mother (Bridegroom and Bride) are earnestly calling us (inviting the saints) to receive the water of life (salvation) in Revelations 22:17. Would you not accept an invitation to a wedding feast? This is no ordinary wedding feast, it is an extraordinary invitation to salvation from Heavenly Father and Mother.

Revelation 21:9 “Write this: Blessed are those who are invited to the wedding supper of the Lamb!”

Let us be blessed by receiving the blessing of eternal life from Heavenly Father and Heavenly Mother!
