The Name of the Savior in Three Ages
August 28, 2023
Time and Purpose
The name of the Savior and our salvation is directly connected by time. In fact, the bible states that everything under Heaven has its own time and purpose.
Ecclesiastes 3:1 There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens:
The Bible says everything on this earth has its own time and season. All our lives, activities and even lives of faith have its time and purpose. What then is the purpose/goal of our faith?
1 Peter 1:8-9 Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy, for you are receiving the end result of your faith, the salvation of your souls.
The purpose of our faith is the salvation of our souls, simply put, eternal life. To grant us eternal life, God has divided His 6,000 years redemption work into 3 times/ ages. Furthermore to give us complete salvation God gives us a different name in each age and time. Like this we can clearly understand that the name of the Savior in three ages and our salvation are linked through time.
Three Ages and Salvation
What is the name of the Savior in each of the three ages of God’s redemption work? Let us see what Jesus said concerning this.
Matthew 28:19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
Jesus Christ said we must baptize people in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. This implies that the Father has a name (Jehovah), the Son has a name (Jesus) and the Holy Spirit also has a name. Many Christian churches believe in Holy Spirit but they do not know that He also has a name. Let us find it out.
Name of the Savior In Each Age
Starting from the first age, the age of the Father what was the name of the Savior?
Isaiah 43:11 I, even I, am Jehovah; and besides me there is no savior.
What do the scriptures say? What was the name of the savior in the Age of the Father? The Father’s name is Jehovah. In that age and time people could be saved only by Jehovah because that was the name of the savior in that age.
Then the time changed from the age of the Father to the age of the Son. What was the name of the savior in the Age of the Son?
Acts 4:11-12 Jesus is “‘the stone you builders rejected, which has become the cornerstone. ’Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.”
The savior in the age of the Son was Jesus therefore the name of the Son is Jesus. Apostle Peter boldly proclaimed and testified that the only name by which mankind could be saved was Jesus. As the age changed from that of the Father to the age of the Son, the name of the savior also changed from Jehovah to Jesus. This shows us that the name of the savior in each age is limited by time. Jehovah is God but, could people be saved by His name when the age changed? No! That is because God gave us a different name as the savior, that name was Jesus.
We neither live in the age of the Father nor the age of the Son. We live in the Holy Spirit’s age. What then is the name of the savior in our age and time? Let’s see a prophecy in Revelation.
Revelation 3:12 The one who is victorious I will make a pillar in the temple of my God. Never again will they leave it. I will write on them the name of my God and the name of the city of my God, the new Jerusalem, which is coming down out of heaven from my God; and I will also write on them my new name.
The speaker in the above verse is Jesus Christ. Therefore ‘I’ refers to Jesus. Jesus said He will write on His people ‘my new name’ (Jesus’ new name). Can the new name of Jesus be Jesus? No, because the name ‘Jesus’ is not new. Jesus’ new name must be a different name from Jesus. Simply put, as the age changed from that of the Son to the age of the Holy Spirit, the name of the savior also changed from Jesus to Jesus’ new name. Let us see another prophecy about the new name.
Revelation 2:17 Whoever has ears, let them hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To the one who is victorious, I will give some of the hidden manna. I will also give that person a white stone with a new name written on it, known only to the one who receives it.
Here, Jesus said He will give us a white stone with a new name. A stone in the Bible actually represents someone.
1 Peter 2:4 As you come to him, the living Stone—rejected by humans but chosen by God and precious to him
The stone in the New Testament is Jesus. If we replace ‘stone with a new name’ it refers to Jesus with a new name. So the name of the savior in the age of the Holy Spirit is the new name. This implies that in the season of the Holy Spirit’s age, all activities are to be done in the new name of Jesus. We should be witnesses to the new name and testify to it, we should call on the new name for salvation and offer up prayers in the new name. Let’s focus on one activity- Prayer.
Prayer In Each Age
Starting from the age of the Father let us examine in whose name people prayed in.
Psalms 116:4 Then called I upon the name of Jehovah. O Jehovah, I beseech thee, deliver my soul.
In the age and time of the Father, people prayed in the name of Jehovah. Why? It is because the name of the savior in that age was Jehovah. Therefore they prayed in the name of the Father, Jehovah. The time then changed from the age of the Father to the Son. Let’s see in whose name people prayed in the age of the Son.
John 16:24 Until now you have not asked for anything in my name. Ask and you will receive, and your joy will be complete.
Jesus told his disciples that they have not asked (prayed) for anything in His name. If they did not pray in Jesus’ name, whose name did they pray in? Up until then, they had prayed in the name of the Father- Jehovah. That day Jesus told them to pray in His name and no longer in the Father’s name. If Jehovah is God, how come Jesus told them to pray in his name instead? It is because of the time they lived in. In the age of the Son, the name of the savior was Jesus. Hence they had to pray in the name of Jesus for their prayers to be answered. Prayers can be answered only if it is offered in the name of the savior in that respective age.
Now we neither live in the Father’s age nor Son’s age. We live in the Holy Spirit’s age. In this age, whose name should we pray in? We ought to pray in the New Name. In fact, all activities should be done in the New Name.
How can we know the new name? According to John chapter 5, it is through the Bible which testifies about the savior. As of now we must study the Bible prophecy diligently to know the new name. In addition, the Bible says that the new name is known only to the one who receives it (Rev 2:17), this implies that not all people will receive the new name of Jesus, rather they reject it. For the salvation of our souls (goal of our faith), let us make all effort to study the prophecies about the new name and receive it.
