The Gospel of Jesus Christ

The Gospel of Jesus Christ

Jesus, who is God the Father in very nature, came to this earth as a human being in order to save mankind from their sins. In order to do this, Jesus taught and practiced the gospel for 3 years, from the time He was baptized, up until the Crucifixion.
The ‘gospel’ means good news. Jesus came to this earth to preach the good news. However, Christians who claim to believe in Him, do not exactly know what the gospel of Jesus Christ is. Rather, they keep rules and teachings not found in the Bible. Prime examples are the observance of ‘Sunday service’ and ‘December 25 – Christmas’. Neither of these practices is found in the Bible.
Now, let us discover the profound gospel of Jesus Christ through the Bible.

Luke 16:16 “The Law and the Prophets were proclaimed until John. Since that time, the good news of the kingdom of God is being preached, and everyone is forcing their way into it.

“Since that time” refers to the time of John the Baptist. Jesus began to preach the gospel of the kingdom of heaven after being baptized.

Matthew 4:17, 23 From that time on Jesus began to preach, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has come near.”

Here, it is written that Jesus taught the gospel preaching repentance. Then, what is the best way to accept the gospel of the kingdom which Jesus taught and practiced? Unless someone accepts the gospel Jesus preached then that person cannot enter heaven. As the Apostle Paul emphasized.

Galatians 1:6-9 I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting the one who called you to live in the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel—which is really no gospel at all. Evidently some people are throwing you into confusion and are trying to pervert the gospel of Christ. But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let them be under God’s curse! …, let them be under God’s curse!

Blessings in the Gospel

Then, what are the blessings contained in the gospel of Jesus Christ?

Ephesians 3:5-6 which was not made known to people in other generations as it has now been revealed by the Spirit to God’s holy apostles and prophets. This mystery is that through the gospel the Gentiles are heirs together with Israel, members together of one body, and sharers together in the promise in Christ Jesus.

Through the gospel, we become heirs of God, members together with Christ and sharers in the promise of eternal life. Everything Jesus said and practiced should not be neglected as it is the way for God’s people to be blessed. Then what is the gospel specifically?

Gospel of Jesus Christ

Colossians 1:23 if you continue in your faith, established and firm, and do not move from the hope held out in the gospel. This is the gospel that you heard and that has been proclaimed to every creature under heaven, and of which I, Paul, have become a servant.

Apostle Paul called himself a servant [minister, KJV] of the gospel.

2 Corinthians 3:6 He has made us competent as ministers of a new covenant—not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.

Here, Apostle Paul called himself a minister of a new covenant. Apostle Paul is a servant [minister, KJV] of the gospel and the minister of the new covenant. It means that the gospel is the new covenant. To say again, the gospel is the new covenant in the Bible.

Jeremiah 31:31-34 “The days are coming,” declares the Lord, “when I will make a new covenant with the people of Israel and with the people of Judah. It will not be like the covenant I made with their ancestors when I took them by the hand to lead them out of Egypt, because they broke my covenant, though I was a husband to them,” declares the Lord…, I will put my law in their minds and write it on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people…, “For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more.”

It was prophesied the Messiah was to establish the new covenant and through the new covenant He would save His people from their sins. Jesus fulfilled this prophecy by establishing the new covenant at the Passover Holy Supper in Mark’s upper room.

Luke 22:15-20 And he said to them, “I have eagerly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer… In the same way, after the supper he took the cup, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you.

Jesus kept the Passover with His disciples. At that time, what covenant did Jesus establish through the Passover? The new covenant. Therefore, the gospel is the new covenant Passover. The church which preaches the gospel must have the truth of the new covenant Passover. Jesus also kept the Sabbath day as was His custom.

Luke 4:16 He went to Nazareth, where he had been brought up, and on the Sabbath day he went into the synagogue, as was his custom. He stood up to read,

Jesus kept the Sabbath as part of the new covenant He established. The disciples also kept the Sabbath (Acts 17:2), following the example Jesus set. Jesus also kept the Feast of Tabernacles and poured out the living waters to the thirsty.

John 7:2, 37-39 But when the Jewish Festival of Tabernacles was near…, On the last and greatest day of the festival, Jesus stood and said in a loud voice, “Let anyone who is thirsty come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them.” By this he meant the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were later to receive…,

Jesus poured out the Holy Spirit on His disciples on the Day of Pentecost.

Acts 2:1-4 When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place… All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.

Jesus gave the special blessing of the Holy Spirit to His disciples on the Day of Pentecost. All these practices should not be neglected, as Apostle Paul emphasized.

1 Corinthians 11:1 Follow my example, as I follow the example of Christ.

Jesus and the apostles of the early church all kept the new covenant including the Passover, the Sabbath day, all the Feasts of God (Lev 23:1).

Denying the Gospel of Jesus

Then, do churches today preach the gospel of Jesus Christ? No, they do not. The Bible teaches us if people do not keep the new covenant, God will give them other laws through which they cannot be saved.

Ezekiel 20:24-25 because they had not obeyed my laws but had rejected my decrees and desecrated my Sabbaths, and their eyes lusted after their parents’ idols. So I gave them other statutes that were not good and laws through which they could not live;

The commands of God such as the new covenant Passover, Sabbath day and the Feasts of God, all contain God’s special blessings of salvation. The churches who insist we do not need to keep the laws of God are given other laws such as the Sunday worship, Christmas, Easter and the Cross through which they cannot be saved. These will be punished and destroyed by God.

2 Thessalonians 1:7-9 and give relief to you who are troubled, and to us as well. This will happen when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven in blazing fire with his powerful angels. He will punish those who do not know God and do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus. They will be punished with everlasting destruction and shut out from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of his might

Hebrews 10:28-29 Anyone who rejected the law of Moses died without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses. How much more severely do you think someone deserves to be punished who has trampled the Son of God underfoot, who has treated as an unholy thing the blood of the covenant that sanctified them, and who has insulted the Spirit of grace?

God will punish those who do not know God and do not obey the gospel. If they claim to believe in God but do not obey the gospel, they will be punished with everlasting destruction. Jesus never taught any other gospel.
It is only the World Mission Society Church of God that celebrates and keeps the new covenant Jesus taught and practiced. It is the only church in the world that keeps the gospel of Jesus Christ.
