God’s Seal and the Last Disaster

The Bible prophesies about the great disaster that will end the world.  The Bible also describes the seal of God as the only means of escaping that great disaster.  The Bible testifies that God’s people will receive His seal before the disaster comes.  What is the seal of God, and more importantly, how can someone receive the seal?

When Will God Seal His People?

The Bible emphasizes that the time of the disaster is unknown to all except God Himself.  As God came to the earth as Jesus more than 2,000 years ago, many people cannot comprehend the day of the last disaster happening in their lifetime.  Because of this, most people have a nonchalant attitude toward this pending disaster, choosing to believe they won’t be present to witness the end of the world.  We can know when God’s work of putting a seal will begin through scripture.

Revelation 7:1-3 After this I saw four angels standing at the four corners of the earth, holding back the four winds of the earth to prevent any wind from blowing on the land or on the sea or on any tree. Then I saw another angel coming up from the east, having the seal of the living God. He called out in a loud voice to the four angels who had been given power to harm the land and the sea: “Do not harm the land or the sea or the trees until we put a seal on the foreheads of the servants of our God.”

We clearly see God’s work of putting a seal to protect His people before the great disaster.  The first verse states “after this,” indicating some event.  We must examine the previous chapter to see what “this” refers to.

Revelation 6:12-14 I watched as he opened the sixth seal…  and the stars in the sky fell to earth, as figs drop from a fig tree when shaken by a strong wind. The heavens receded like a scroll being rolled up, and every mountain and island was removed from its place.

Is War the Great Disaster?

This passage describes the event in Revelation 7:1.  We can see this through Apostle John’s reference to “wind” in chapters six and seven.  Religious scholars commonly accept that wind in the Bible represents war (Jer 4:11, 19).  The event in chapter six refers to a “strong wind,” indicating a great war.  Then we see the four angels “holding back the four winds” from the earth’s four corners.  This image suggests a war across the entire planet or a world war.  Which world war must the angels be holding back?  As there have only been two world wars in history, the angels drew back the winds of World War II.

Stars and Figs

When we reference supporting verses in the Bible, we can see that the stars and figs in the quoted verse indicate God’s people, specifically Jews (Ge 15:5; Lk 13:6).  This association further supports that the four winds held back indicate World War II, where the lives of more than 6 million Jews were lost.  This realization, connecting God’s sealing work to the end of World War II (“after this”), clearly shows when it must occur, some time after 1945.

From where did the work of putting God’s seal begin?

Revelation 7:2 Then I saw another angel coming up from the east, having the seal of the living God.

When Apostle John saw the angel with God’s seal, from where was the angel coming?  It was from the east, meaning from the east of John’s reference.  Apostle John wrote the book of Revelation during the period he was held captive on the island of Patmos.  We can deduce that the work of God’s putting a seal began in a country in the east when seen from the island of Patmos.

What Is God’s Seal?

As the Bible describes the work of God putting His seal begins after 1945, and that it will start east of Patmos, how will we know what God’s seal is?  Let us see through the teachings of Jesus.

John 6:27 Do not work for food that spoils, but for food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you. For on him God the Father has placed his seal of approval.

As Jesus is the Son of Man, it was on Jesus that God put His seal.  Since God’s seal is on Jesus, if we become one body with Jesus, we too can have the seal of God.  The Bible tells how someone can become one with Jesus.

John 6:53-56 Jesus said to them, “Very truly I tell you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day… Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me, and I in them.”

To become one with Jesus, we must eat His flesh and drink His blood.  We can do this by celebrating the New Covenant Passover that Jesus established with His disciples 2,000 years ago.

Matthew 26:19, 26-28 So the disciples did as Jesus had directed them and prepared the Passover . . . While they were eating, Jesus took bread . . . saying, “Take and eat; this is my body.  Then he took a cup, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you.  This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.

The Passover allows us to eat and drink Jesus’ flesh and blood and become one with Him, thereby having God’s seal.  Only by having God’s seal can we avoid the last and greatest disaster as foretold in the Bible.
