What does the Trinity mean?
June 9, 2022
The Biblical principle of the Trinity can be understood through the example of water. The chemical formula for water is H2O, which can exist as a solid named ice, as a liquid called water, or as a gas called vapor. This transformation of water is possible when there is a significant change in temperature. Nevertheless, it’s chemical formula (H2O) is never altered despite its exterior substance transforming. Although water (H2O) changes its appearance and even its name accordingly, it is still the same chemical formula H2O. This principle is the same for the holy trinity. What does the trinity mean? Trinity means that God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit are one God. Similar to water, although God works in a different appearance and a different name in each age, He remains the same God.
The First Part of the Trinity: Father Jehovah and the Son Jesus are one and the same God
Isaiah 9:6 For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace
The prophet Isaiah prophesied about a son that would be born and that he would be called Mighty God and Everlasting Father. All Christians understand and agree that this prophecy would be fulfilled by Jesus Christ 700 years later. Here the prophet Isaiah was testifying that Mighty God, the Father Jehovah would come as the Son Jesus.
In the New Testament age as well, we can see the disciples who understood this prophecy gave testimony to the Father Jehovah coming in the flesh as the Son Jesus.
Philippians 2:5-8 … have the same mindset as Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God…
Romans 9:5 … from them is traced the human ancestry of the Messiah, who is God over all…
Through these two verses in the New Testament, the apostles testified about Jesus Christ, and did not regard him as merely the Son of God, as many Christians do today. Rather the apostles of Christ regarded him as “being in very nature God” and “God over all”. At this time who was known as “God”? It is God the everlasting Father Jehovah. Apostle Paul repeatedly testified that the Son Jesus, who came to bring salvation, is definitely God the Father Jehovah Himself.
By comparing mated Biblical verses, we can further confirm the Father Jehovah and the Son Jesus is one and the same God.
Isaiah 44:24 This is what the LORD says… the Maker of all things, who stretches out the heavens, who spreads out the earth by myself
Colossians 1:16, 18 For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible… all things have been created through him and for him… And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead…
In the Old Testament, it is testified that the Lord Jehovah is the “Maker of all things” who alone created everything. On the contrary, in the New Testament, it is testified that Jesus created all things. What if the Son Jesus and the Father Jehovah are different? Then there would be two earths in existence. There is only one earth, therefore the Father Jehovah and the Son Jesus are the same creator of all things.
We can see mated verses even in the same book of Revelation that further demonstrate Jehovah and Jesus being one and the same God.
Revelation 1:8 “I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God,
Revelation 22:13,16 I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End… I, Jesus…
The bible testifies that the Lord Jehovah is the Alpha and the Omega. Alpha (α) is the first letter in the Greek alphabet and Omega(Ω) is the last letter in the Greek alphabet. So here the Lord Jehovah is the first and the last. In the same book of Revelation, Jesus says He is the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last. There cannot be two firsts and two lasts. The bible states that both the Father Jehovah and the Son Jesus are the Alpha and the Omega. Therefore, the Father Jehovah and the Son Jesus are one and the same God.
The Second Part of the Trinity: Father Jehovah and the Holy Spirit are one and the same God
Now that we have reviewed overwhelming evidence of the Trinity between the Father and the Son, let us examine the next portion; the Father and the Holy Spirit.
1 Corinthians 2:10 – 11 The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God. For who knows a person’s thoughts except their own spirit within them? In the same way no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God.
No one can come to know the thoughts of a man except the spirit within that man. The spirit that dwells within a person, is the true essence of said person. In the same way, no one can come to know the thoughts of God except the spirit of God. The spirit of God, known as the Holy Spirit can come to know even the deep things of God because the Spirit is God. Only God knows the thoughts of God. Therefore, the Father Jehovah and the Holy Spirit are one and the same God.
The Third Part of the Trinity: the Son Jesus and the Holy Spirit are one and the same God
Lastly, let us see how the Son Jesus and the Holy Spirit are also one and the same God.
1 John 2:1 … if anybody does sin, we have an advocate with the Father—Jesus Christ, the Righteous One.
John 14:26 But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit…
The Bible testifies that Jesus is the advocate, meaning ‘one who speaks in our defense’. However, the Bible also states that the Holy Spirit is the advocate; the one who speaks in our defense. The only logical way that both the Holy Spirit and Jesus can be the advocate is if the Son and the Holy Spirit are one and the same God.
Both the appearance of water and even its name change according to the temperature. Through the Bible, we have seen that, just like water, God’s appearance and even God’s name can change, according to the age. In each age, one and the same God worked under a different name and a different appearance. In the age of the Father, God worked as the Father Jehovah. In the age of the Son, God worked as the Son Jesus. In this age of the Holy Spirit, God is working as the Holy Spirit Ahnsahnghong. Since the Trinity constitutes one and the same God, we can posit that it was the Holy Spirit Ahnsahnghong who created all things in the beginning. It was the Holy Spirit Ahnsahnghong who came 2,000 years ago and died on the cross for our sins.
The apostles, who understood the truth of the Trinity, boldly testified that the Son Jesus was actually Mighty God the Father Jehovah in the flesh 2,000 years ago. Likewise in this age of the Holy Spirit, those who fully understand the Trinity can testify that the Holy Spirit Ahnsahnghong is the Son Jesus who is God over all.
