Melchizedek – a Hard Truth to Understand

Apostle Paul confessed that it was difficult to explain that Jesus came as the spiritual Melchizedek. Knowing and understanding this truth is extremely important for our salvation.

Hebrews 5:11 We have much to say about this, but it is hard to make it clear to you because you no longer try to understand.

Why was it so hard to explain about Melchizedek at that time? Let us first find out.

Melchizedek of the Old Testament and of the New Testament

Genesis 14:18-20 Then Melchizedek king of Salem brought out bread and wine. He was priest of God Most High, and he blessed Abram, saying, “Blessed be Abram by God Most High, Creator of heaven and earth. And praise be to God Most High, who delivered your enemies into your hand.” Then Abram gave him a tenth of everything.

What did Melchizedek bless Abraham with? It was bread and wine. In the Old Testament times, priests blessed people with the blood of animals, Melchizedek did not. He blessed with bread and wine, this is a distinct characteristic of Melchizedek. Through studying the Bible, we can clearly understand that the Old Testament is a shadow and the New Testament is the reality. Who then came as the reality of Melchizedek in the New Testament times? It was Jesus of course!

Matthew 26:26-28 While they were eating, Jesus took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to his disciples, saying, “Take and eat; this is my body.” Then he took a cup, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you. This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.

Jesus gave us the blessing of eternal life through bread and wine, just as Melchizedek did in his time. Jesus was the only priest that blessed with bread and wine during His time. Melchizedek therefore represents Jesus.

Hebrews 5:8-10 Son though he was, he learned obedience from what he suffered and, once made perfect, he became the source of eternal salvation for all who obey him and was designated by God to be high priest in the order of Melchizedek.

Therefore, we can clearly understand that Jesus is the reality of Melchizedek.

Points That Are Hard to Explain

There were however a few points that made it hard to understand that Jesus came as the spiritual Melchizedek at the time of the early church.

Hebrews 7:1-3 This Melchizedek was king of Salem and priest of God Most High. He met Abraham returning from the defeat of the kings and blessed him, and Abraham gave him a tenth of everything. First, the name Melchizedek means “king of righteousness”; then also, “king of Salem” means “king of peace.” Without father or mother, without genealogy, without beginning of days or end of life, resembling the Son of God, he remains a priest forever.

Without Father or Mother

This point cannot be taken literally. Is there anyone on earth born without a father or a mother? Absolutely not, this must be understood spiritually. Jesus acknowledged the believers in God and the ones who follow God’s will as father or mother. So, the words ‘without father or mother’ means he is to be born to unbelieving parents. Jesus however was born to believing parents. Mary and Joseph had very good faith in God. This point was hard to explain to the early church members.

Without Genealogy

Genealogy here refers to Israel’s genealogy. Melchizedek should not be from the genealogy of Israel. However, Jesus’ genealogy is clearly written in the Bible among that of Israel. This point was also hard to explain.

Does this mean that we should not believe the Bible? No, it is testified that every prophecy in the Bible will be fulfilled absolutely without fail. Thus, the Bible prophesied that Christ will appear a second time to fulfill this prophecy.

Hebrews 9:28 so Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many; and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him.

Second Coming Christ Ahnsahnghong

During the year AD 325, Satan managed to abolish the Passover of the New Covenant established by our precious Jesus. For a long time of about 1,600 years, nobody was able to keep the Passover. Who then brought us the Passover of the New Covenant in this age? It is Christ Ahnsahnghong, He blessed us with eternal life through the Passover bread and wine. Also, He was born to unbelieving parents (fulfilling the prophecy of without father or mother). Christ Ahnsahnghong was born from a Gentile country Korea, thus his name is not recorded in the genealogy of Israel. Christ Ahnsahnghong is God who has come as Melchizedek. Let us believe in Him and be saved.
